In a small community called Sayre, only 25 miles northwest of Birmingham, God is working a miracle. Most folks who drive along nearby U.S. Highway 78 between Birmingham and Jasper have no idea what kind of intolerable living conditions have existed in this old mining camp for the past three decades. Children and adults have gone without food, in some cases living in homes with no heat or air conditioning and leaky roofs. Drug dealers stepped in when the mining jobs dried up. Poverty and illiteracy were all that life offered for some some Sayre residents.

During the midst of this despair, God raised up the Middle Oak Church, a group of believers who initially met outside under the middle of three oak trees. As the church grew, problems in the community started to fade away. Middle Oak is giving love and hope to the people of Sayre while meeting physical needs as well. The church has been meeting in a small tent in recent years, but thanks to the generosity of countless individuals, businesses, and corporations, the vision of getting the Middle Oak Church out of a tent and into a permanent building has happened! M.O.V.E. (Middle Oak Volunteer Effort) at Sayre was formed in early 2002 to coordinate this building project.
